Overview
- Working document is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MbdMBH8fwhUKRN_K7rnq8O23EidWXaaJJkddbKQBSwk/edit?usp=sharing
- We've decided the CMS will be WordPress as it's the quickest way for us to build the site and we have more people in the team experienced in this CMS
- Basic wireframes were created, with a couple of versions of a homepage and internal pages, as a starting point: https://www.figma.com/proto/OIqb9D6IT3mOP2HjqlZ230/Mautic.org-website-wireframe?t=ggP40gPOoDBEdMOP-1 and the editor view is here: https://www.figma.com/design/OIqb9D6IT3mOP2HjqlZ230/Mautic.org-website-wireframe?node-id=71-267&t=WV9mSyEte6LdEwc9-0
- Sven shared the homepage layout of the Kirby project - https://getkirby.com/ - which has a nice option under the 'The CMS' section which allows you to self-select based on your persona.
- Ricardo shared a dropdown from Divi https://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/divi/ which also allows you to select into what you're interested in
- Sven asked about mobile layout and how the pages could be built as a template and then content writers can get going quickly
- We want to limit the amount of content - especially from the mobile perspective - but point taken about designing for mobile first.
Goals / Objectives
- Decision: Do we want to have a single landing page combining product and community, or a central page which diverts you to product or community based on your preference?
- Sven preferred to have the single page view
- Sven suggested if we add an extra step for the product page it makes the funnel one step longer.
- Ricardo expressed concern that there hadn't been enough research into user personas to jump forward to wireframes.
- Angelo asked what's the main goal for the new website?
- Ruth explained that from the project's need, we have to refocus the website on explaining what the product is, how it benefits users, how it compares with other products in the market. People don't really understand what Mautic is, so they aren't considering using it.
- Mike also explained that the trials are seeing around 400-500 signups per month, but they're all very small companies or they don't have a clue what Mautic is and they aren't necessarily figuring that out through the trials.
- Angelo asked how people find the website currently - what are we going to be aiming for?
- We have the info from Search Console, we're aiming for longer tail keywords as mostly our incoming traffic is branded (searches for Mautic) and broad terms like Marketing Automation are too competitive right now.
- Tobi asked how people will find out what Mautic actually is, it needs to be really clear upfront on the homepage.
- Sven suggested this could be accomplished with a short bit of text which is super clear, but which links to a more detailed page explaining what Mautic and Marketing Automation is.
- Ruth emphasised the importance of working collaboratively with the community and enabling people to contribute where their skills lie
Actions
- Action: All to review proposed wireframes and decide which option we want to move forward with, and provide feedback on the proposed designs (all is open to comment) - please either leave on Figma or the Google Doc under the section 'Feedback on the homepage wireframe proposals' by the end of the 18th July.
- Action: Ruth to share the meeting notes and what people said they'd be interested in contributing towards on Slack
- Action: Ruth to open discussion on Slack about the 1 page v multiple page landing page experience for further discussion
- Action: Once we decide on a direction for the homepage, we can start the initial build process and share a first proof of concept
