Propose new Mautic features
#MauticRoadmap Building Mautic together!
Redesigning Mautic interface
Has your proposal been discussed on the Mautic Forums already?
I didn't find it, but it has been discussed in meetings.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The last interface update was done about 10 years ago, so today it already looks visually much more outdated when compared to other solutions available in the market.
Describe the solution you'd like
A new interface can be an attraction for new users and businesses to consider the platform as an option, potentially attracting new investments and developers to contribute.
Improving the user interface is also beneficial for those who use it daily because the current interface has many elements trying to grab the user's attention away from the information that is truly essential.
We can guide a new interface project through community members, reducing the costs of this implementation or even starting from scratch (no cost), in addition to keeping developers focused on functionalities without worrying about this demand at the moment.
Thinking about accessibility, it would be interesting to introduce a new interface as the default version, while a high-contrast option would be available in the settings.
Additional context
Additionally, Mautic version 5 is coming, and a redesign can mark this transition.
Does this issue could impact on users private data?
No.

Edit 1 | 03/12/2023
It's already in progress.
Mautic means of bringing success not only to the businesses where it's applied but also to the intermediaries: marketers worldwide who use Mautic and make it their own pathway to success.
So a hand crafted background was created to express the way Mautic is present on companies of every size, industry and location.
The main changes remain in the marketplace, but its CSS code affects some other aspects of the general interface design. A set of CSS variables was created to help maintain UI consistency.
You can see the new marketplace in the screenshots.
The general roadmap is:
- Marketplace
- Header, sidebars and footer
- User profile
- General interface
- Email builder
- Campaign builder
- Installation process
- Error page, 404 and messages

Estimated cost
It is likely this would be considered for Mautic 5.1 (tentative date of March release), providing the work is done in time for the release freeze and there are no backward compatibility breaking changes.
It's important to understand that this has far-reaching implications - for example documentation, knowledgebase and website will all need updating with new screenshots and stakeholders with their own UI may need to do extensive refactoring.
Volunteer time.
This proposal has been accepted because:
- Anderson will kick off the work in this project and we'll form the UI/UX Tiger Team to ensure we work collaboratively
- Multiple users of Mautic mentioned in the short survey that the user interface is well overdue an overhaul
- We hope to solve some of the accessibility issues with this project

Conversation with Ricardo
Instead of going for a complete redesign, considering Mautic's limited resources, and with the upcoming marketplace in mind, we could kick things off by focusing on the marketplace feature and build from there.
This way, in the upcoming v5 minor releases, we can tackle it incrementally, and by the time v6 rolls around, we can go for a complete redesign. @rcheesley @andersoneccel
Thanks for getting the conversation going folks! I totally agree that we should look at refreshing - or indeed completely overhauling the user interface, however indeed we have to think about resource availability and also consulting with the users of the product along the way.
I think this could also be a nice way to get user feedback directly, especially if we want to introduce specific changes which we will plan to roll out product-wide.
For example, we could propose a basic UI design guideline/principles which we demo within the marketplace bundle to give people a feel for how it would be, before proposing it product-wide.
I like the idea of starting with the marketplace as it definitely does need some love, however it might also need some dev work doing to achieve significant change, so we might have to consider that. What do you think @escopecz @norman @Joey ?
